Jet Airways ICICI Bank credit cards

This isn’t new, but this offer doesn’t seem to be ageing either!

After moving on from their relationship with Citibank, Jet Airways launched a new co-branded Visa credit card some time last year, in partnership with ICICI Bank. There are three variants – Sapphiro, Rubyx and Coral. Naturally, each of these variants offers different benefits, as the ones I’ve listed below:

With the Sapphiro card, along-with receiving 10,000 bonus JPMiles on joining, the cardholder can earn up to 9 JPMiles on all spends apart from receiving a host of other travel and lifestyle benefits.

With the Rubyx card, along-with receiving 5,000 bonus JPMiles on joining, the cardholder receives a host of other travel and lifestyle benefits like lounge access, complimentary air travel, buy one get one on movie tickets, etc.

With the Coral card, along-with receiving 2,500 bonus JPMiles on joining, the cardholder receives a host of other travel and lifestyle benefits like lounge access, buy one get one on movie tickets, savings on dining and many other exclusive privileges.savings on dining and many other exclusive privileges.

The good stuff

All three variants are available under both Visa and Amex networks. This helps, particularly if you travel from airports that have Amex lounges (eg, BOM, DEL). Even otherwise, the benefits seem good, particularly on the Sapphiro version, for which the joining fee and annual fees are Rs 5k each. Rubyx and Coral charges are Rs 2500 and Rs 1250 respectively (annual fees as well as joining fees). Plus, for JP Platinum members, the joining and annual fees are waived as long as the user retains JP Platinum status.

The Drawbacks

Sapphiro caps the annual earning at 60k miles, and it is 40k for the other 2 variants. However, you could have this limit uncapped, at the bank’s discretion, and after payment of a fee of Rs 7500. A bit high, in my view.

Personal recommendation

The Sapphiro is a great option, particularly with an additional 5k bonus miles if applied for by 31 March 2013 (Rubyx – 2500 bonus miles, Coral – 1250 bonus miles), making a total of 15k miles for a fee of Rs 5k. Do note, that if you are JP Platinum and the joining / annual fees are waived, you won’t be eligible for the joining points or bonus points.

Caveat emptor / Buyer beware!

If you contact ICICI Bank, be sure to ask for the Jet Airways cards, since they seem to have another deal with similar names (eg, a friend who works for ICICI tried to hard-sell the Sapphiro card, which came with a free iPad or some such thing, for an annual fee of Rs 50k).
