Jet Privilege shopping mall is another JP miles earning opportunity

Jet Privilege, the mileage program of Jet Airways, already has several tie ups with partners, that enable members to earn JP miles on purchases or other transactions with them. These include partner airlines, hotels, retail chains, travel companies, car rentals, and such. And the latest addition to this is Jet Privilege's shopping portal, run in partnership with Flipkart. You can now earn JP miles for your purchases with Flipkart, going up to 16 JP miles per Rs 100 spent on such purchases. Here's how you can earn those extra miles, and a pro-tip.

The shopping portal is located here. As is obvious, the search and shopping engine is run by Flipkart. (As an aside, the way this works is that Jet Privilege sells its miles to Flipkart, which the latter then uses as a bonus when marketing its products, only on this particular channel. That's to say, normal shopping on Flipkart won't earn you these miles.)

Earning JP miles

You won't earn 16 JP miles per Rs 100 spent on all your shopping. Instead the rates are something like this:
  • up to 4 JP miles / Rs 100 on smartphones,
  • up to 5 JP miles / Rs 100 on televisions,
  • up to 16 JP miles / Rs 100 on clothing and accessories (men and women).

The number of miles earned varies even within categories, based on the actual product. That's because the miles offered depends on how much margin Flipkart makes on it, and is able to pass on to the customer in the form of JP miles.

Product range and prices

I took the shopping portal for a spin, searching for products. There's a plus and a minus out here, so let me explain. For my test drive, I searched for "Douglas Adams".

There seem to be only limited products for which bonus JP miles are awarded. Here's the search result via JP, compared to a direct search on Flipkart.

However, the prices are pretty comparable, and in all cases I tested, there was no difference in price.

Things to remember

When you enter the shopping portal on your browser, you'll be redirected to a Flipkart affiliate partner's page. Clicking on specific products, logos, etc, will display a screen like the one below, where you need to enter your JP login credentials, in order to earn JP miles on your purchases. (You can still continue to shop as a guest user, but won't earn any JP miles on purchases.)

JP miles will take at about 75 days to be credited to your JP account. This long period ensures that the product returns period is well expired, so your purchase can qualify for JP miles.

Finally, read the T&Cs here.

Bottom line

Just make sure you check product availability on JP's shopping portal first, before heading over to Flipkart (or any other site). Remember to use your Jet Airways co-branded credit card (such as the Amex or HDFC ones) to earn more JP miles on your base spend, plus any additional bonus JP miles via the ExtraJPmiles program.

And there's a bonus of 500 JP miles on your first shopping transaction using this portal, if done by 7 October 2016.

If you're someone who shops online (even infrequently), this is a good way to pad up your JP mileage balance.
