Marriott Rewards promotion - MR points for social media interactions

Marriott Rewards has launched a new promotion that earns MR points for social media interactions. Conceptually, this promotion is rather similar to the promotion they ran last year, though the specifics this time round are a bit different.

This year's promotion is restricted to interactions on Twitter and Instagram. Each interaction earns 25 MR points. Here's broadly how it works:

The FAQs for this promotion carry a note that each #MRpoints promotion is unique, and so you need to read the emails you receive after the interaction, to confirm if there's anything else to be done to earn the MR points. You can find the detailed T&Cs here, and the FAQs here.

Conclusion

Last year's promotion netted me a total of 11,825 MR points from social media interactions alone (Twitter and Facebook), out of a possible 12,000 MR points. That was good for a night's stay at a Category 2 hotel (under normal Hotel rewards) or two nights in a Category 1 hotel (under PointSavers rewards).

However, in order not to clutter my normal Twitter and Facebook accounts, I created separate accounts to use solely for the promotion. I'm doing that this time round as well, and you can, too, if that's what you want.

In all, the promotion requires a little bit of investment in the form of time for every social media interaction. However, given most people's general level of comfort with Twitter and Instagram, I don't see this as something that involves going out of the way too much, and the points earned can be worth it.
