An offer I want to LMAO about !!!

It has been a really long time now that I laughed aloud, for an entire minute or so, right after reading an email. Today was one such day! I received a mail earlier today, from JetPrivilege, for conversion of hotel points into JP miles, with a 20% bonus. Now, if you've read my earlier posts on What are JP miles good for and Airline FFPs 101, you'll know what I'm talking about, and the reasons for my mirth.

To begin with, JP miles aren't the best currency around. They are barely worth much outside of domestic redemptions, thanks to very high levels of taxes and fees. The partner airline redemptions are marginally more bearable, but inefficient nonetheless. But what takes the cake, is that they want me (hypothetically, of course) to give up hard-earned hotel points to get JP miles, converted a pathetic conversion rate. In fact, "pathetic" doesn't even begin to describe it!

You want me to give up 10k HHonors points (which could get me 2 nights at quite a number of Hilton properties around the world), to get 1000 JP miles, which is one-fifth of the minimum number of miles required to redeem from anywhere to anywhere on Jet? Seriously?? Sure you're not kidding, Jet?

Terms & Conditions
  • Promotion – Under this promotion JetPrivilege members who are also members of Le Club Accorhotels, Club Carlson, Hilton HHonors, Hyatt Gold Passport, IHG Hotels, ITC Hotels, Marriott Rewards, Shangri-La Hotels and Preferred at The Park, who convert their points into JPMiles with the Offer Period will receive 20% bonus JPMiles for every JPMile credited with respect to the conversion of the points from the above mentioned programmes.
    • Offer is valid from 20th July’2013 till 31st August’ 2013 only ("Offer Period").
  • The conversion date should be between the Offer Period, in order to be eligible for availing of the 20% Bonus JPMiles
  • Please allow 4-6 weeks from the date of placing the request with your preferred Hotel programme for conversion of points into JPMiles and for the JPMiles to be credited in the membership account.
  • Hotel programme loyalty points once converted into JPMiles cannot be reversed.
  • Request for conversion of points into JPMiles needs to be placed with the respective Hotel Loyalty programme directly.

I think in today's times, it helps to be an Accenture employee. I'm only talking from a miles and points perspective, of course!!! 50% off at Marriott in Thailand, for one night

Marriott is offering a 50% off for a single night, till 31 July 2014, in exchange for registering for / subscribing to their eNewsletter. I'm not sure what the connection is, but I think the fact that it is for a single night's stay may well be suggestive of promoting Thai tourism, if you know my meaning... But well...its there to be had. I know this isn't exactly an India-focussed deal, but I'm looking at another trip to BKK soon, and I think there could be others who might benefit from this. The 50% off is on the highest available rate. Bookings cannot be done online. Instead, it will have to be done by emailing bookmarriott@marriotthotels.com or by calling the hotel and quoting your cluster code (which is D58) and the voucher number (see steps below for getting the voucher). While Qatar's and Etihad's sales end on 5 and 6 September 2016 respectively (yeah, in a couple of days), Gulf Air's sale has only just begun.
